The independent German-Netherlands children’s and youth theatre Theater mini-art was set up in 1993 by Crischa Ohler and Sjef van der Linden with the aim of producing innovative children’s and youth theatre. Since the end of 1997, it has had its own performance venue on the grounds of the Rhenish clinic in Bedburg-Hau, a psychiatric hospital. Crischa Ohler and Sjef van der Linden feature in Theater mini-art’s productions as authors, directors, translators and actors. They aim to make art sensually tangible through their poetic theatre work. Theater mini-art is also particularly interested in encouraging border-crossing between Germany and the Netherlands.

Netherlands director Rinus Kobel and the Prinzregent Theater in Bochum are long-standing cooperation partners of the theatre. mini-art’s productions have been invited to attend the children’s and youth theatre festival “Augenblick Mal!” on a number of occasions. Several plays have been awarded the children’s and youth theatre prize of Land North-Rhine/Westphalia. Drama and art education projects with children and young people in various institutions e.g. schools, and child and juvenile psychiatry, are another important part of Theater mini-art’s work.

mini-art is a member of the working group on children and youth theatre in North-Rhine/Westphalia and of the German section of ASSITEJ. The mini-art e.V. was set up in 1997 and the Netherlands stichting mini-art was set up in 1999.
