Theater o.N. has positioned itself in Berlin’s theatre landscape since 2010 by focussing on two areas. Firstly, the ensemble aims to pass on its experience in the field of biographical theatre to children and young people who are growing up in districts of the city where considerably fewer cultural activities are on offer than elsewhere, and who come from a social background where formal education is not valued very highly. A project with young people in Berlin-Hellersdorf over a number of years began in March 2010. Secondly, Theater o.N. is interested in a fledgling form of theatre, “Theatre from the Very Beginning”, putting on performances at its Prenzlauer Berg theatre for children from the age of two.

Theater o.N. / Zinnober was set up 30 years ago. It is an association of actors and puppeteers, musicians, directors and writers who come together in different constellations to produce theatre for children and adults. In 1979/1980, young graduates of East Berlin’s Staatliche Schauspielschule set up “Zinnober”, a puppet and stage theatre , which was the GDR’s first and for a long time only independent theatre. For 30 years, the Theater o.N. Zinnober was organised as a collective on the basis of grass-roots democracy. Since the 2010/11 season, the theatre has been working under the artistic directorship of Anja Michaelis for the first time.
