Theater Pfütze was set up as a mobile theatre by four students in Nuremberg in 1986. They opened a first performance venue of their own in Nuremberg-Gostenhof in 1997. Theater Pfütze moved into a newly-built building in the Sebalder Höfe in November 2007, with space for 220 seats. The ensemble currently consists of a team of four artistic directors, a management board, six permanent staff and many guest performers.

Theater Pfütze aims to use its plays to build a bridge between the generations. The focus of its productions is on the dramatization of major children’s novels, such as “Der Kleine Prinz” (The Little Prince) and “Der satanarchäolügenialkohöllische Wunschpunsch” (The Night of Wishes), often in cooperation with the authors. But the theatre’s repertoire also includes its own productions. The music, which is composed especially for each play, and the costumes and set, which are developed individually, are a typical feature of all Pfütze’s productions. Two to three new productions are staged each season. The programme also includes guest performances and cooperation with the Staatstheater Nuremberg and the Stadttheater Fürth.

Attending a performance by Theater Pfütze is often accompanied by theatre talks, educational introductions to the work and drama activities. Theater Pfütze has received many awards for its work, including the Bavarian Theatre Award.
