“Die Geschichte vom Löwen, der nicht bis 3 zählen konnte”
(The Lion Who Couldn’t Count To Three) by Martin Baltscheit

Martin Baltscheit was born in Düsseldorf on 16. September 1965. He studied IT Design in Essen. From 1986-1992 he was a member of the theatre “Junges Ensemble Düsseldorf”. He began by drawing comic strips, but then focused on writing and illustrating picture books. He has also written a number of radio plays and worked on animated cartoons.

Our lion has everything he needs. The lovely lioness lies beside him – and she is reading again – it is sunny and warm, and he himself feels, in a word, lordly! But then suddenly a rival appears on the scene, he struts his stuff in front of the lovely lioness, woos her with flowers and poems and, what’s more, all in French, oh là là. Simply ridiculous, says the lion to himself, but to his alarm he sees that the lovely lioness is rather impressed. Since our lion can’t even add one and one, since he simply doesn’t know that three is one too many, he has to take lessons - for better or worse. There must be someone in his realm who can count to three and who can explain how to get rid of the surplus Romeo!

Once again, the lion learns a lesson for life: not just the ABC, but also the multiplication tables can sometimes be very helpful in affairs of the heart! You can read more about Part One of his lessons in life in “The Lion Who Couldn’t Write”.
