Nina Büttner was born at Munich in 1979. After leaving school, she studied theatre studies and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich. In parallel to this, she worked as an editor and journalist at a film and television studio in Munich. Finally, she enrolled on the creative writing for the stage course at Berlin University of the Arts, from which she graduated in 2008. This was followed in 2009 by an invitation to the Berlin Play Market. In 2012, she received the Else Lasker-Schüler Play Prize for Schafinsel (Sheep Island) and was invited to the Autorentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater Berlin in the same year.
