Jens Hillje was born in 1968, grew up in Milan, Munich and Landshut, and studied applied cultural studies in Perugia, Hildesheim and Berlin. From 1990 to 1995, he was an actor, author and director with independent theatre groups in Hildesheim, and worked on theatre projects with children and young people. From 1996 to 1999, he partnered Thomas Ostermeier as codirector and dramaturg at the Baracke, the Deusches Theater's studio theatre. He subsequently spent ten years as a member of the artistic management and head dramaturg at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz. He has collaborated with many artists, including Barbara Frey, Christina Paulhofer, Árpád Schilling, Grzegorz Jarzyna, Tom Kühnel, Sebastian Nühling, Rafael Sanchez and Falk Richter. His first joint piece with Nurkan Erpulat, Crazy Blood, was invited to the 2011 Theatertreffen, received the Audience Award at the 2011 Mülheim Theatertage and was chosen as play of the year in the Theater heute critics' survey.

Nurkan Erpulat

Nurkan Erpulat was born in Ankara, and studied acting in Izmir and directing for the theatre in Berlin. His productions include On the Other Side – Are you Gay or Are You Turkish? and You Don't Need a Guidebook for a Village You Can See, two works created for the beyond belonging festival. His stagings with young people at the Staatstheater Hanover, Home in Your Head and Family Stories, were invited to the Theatertreffen der Jugend youth festival in Berlin. At the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, he has created Shadow Voices and Lö Bal Almanya. He has also worked as a lecturer at Berlin University of the Arts.

Crazy Blood, which he developed together with Jens Hillje, was invited to the 2011 Theatertreffen, received the Audience Award at the 2011 Mülheim Theatertage and was chosen as play of the year in the Theater heute critics' survey. Nurkan Erpulat works primarily in Berlin, but also in Hanover, Linz, Heilbronn and Istanbul.
