Born in 1986 in Upper Austria, Thomas Köck devoted himself early to music, and began working as a musician in 2001. After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy in Vienna and literature at the Free University of Berlin before beginning to study playwriting at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2013.
Parallel to this, Köck took various workshops with, among others, Hans-Werner Kroesinger and Lukas Bärfuss, and did an assistantship at Claudia Bosse’s theatercombinat. In addition to various publications in the journals rio and kleine delicatessen, he published his own theatre works and documentary films.
His first play, jenseits von fukuyama (i.e. Beyond fukuyama), won the 2013 Osnabrück Dramatist Award.
In 2014, for his second play, Isabelle Huppert, Köck received the Play Award of the Pfalztheaters Kaiserslautern on behalf of the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation, known as the Else Lasker-Schüler Prize. The play’s premiere took place in the autumn of 2015 at the Pfalztheater Kaiserlautern.
