Dirk Laucke

Dirk Laucke grew up in Halle an der Saale and started to read psychology at Leipzig University, but moved to Berlin in 2004 to study creative writing for the stage at the Berlin University of the Arts. In the same year he was invited to the Salzburg Festival by Tankred Dorst to read from his play “Symptom”. In 2005, working together with two other young dramatists, he wrote the anti-deportation play Hier geblieben, performed at Berlin’s Grips theatre. The following year, Dirk Laucke received the Kleist Prize for Young Dramatists for “alter ford escort dunkelblau”, written from a working-class perspective, and was invited to stage the work at the Mülheim Theatertagen. In 2007, the magazine “Theater Heute” named him Young Dramatist of the Year.
