Goran Marković

*1946 in Belgrade

Goran Marković is a film and theatre director, screenplay writer and playwright. He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He has directed approximately 50 documentaries, 11 feature films and three plays. Goran Markovic has been awarded over 30 Yugoslavian, Serbian and international film and theatre prizes, including Best Director for “Urnebesna tragedija” (Tragédie Burlesque) at the Montreal World Film Festival 1995, Best Director for “Tito i ja” (Tito and Me) at the 1992 Sebastian International Film Festival, and Best Film for “Sabirni centar” (Meeting Point) at the 1989 Pula Film Festival of Yugoslavian Films. His most recent film “Turneja” (The Tour) is based on his own award-winning play and was premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI and Best Director award. “Turneja” is the official Serbian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Academy Awards. Goran Marković is also a Professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Dramatic Arts.
