Elmar Goerden

Born in Viersen, Rhineland on 29 March 1963. Studied History of Art, English and Theatre Sciences in Cologne, England and New York, where he gained a Master of Arts in 1988. During his studies he founded a Shakespeare troupe together with Karin Beier. 1991-1994 assistant director at Berlin’s erliner Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz; 1997 painting scholarship at Akademie Solitude in Stuttgart.

From 1995 to 2000 he worked at Stuttgart Staatstheater, firstly as a guest and then as a permanently employed in-house director. In 1995 he was awarded the Gertrud Eysoldt Prize for Young Directors. Since 2001/2002 Senior Play Director under Dieter Dorn at the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel Munich. From the season 2005/2006 until the season 2009/2010 he took over the management of the Schauspielhaus Bochum (as the successor of Matthias Hartmann).
