Portrait

Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have worked together as ‘artist twins’ since 2001. They are constantly renegotiating their function as art producers in different formats, taking their own art as subject matter. In the world of deufert + plischke, art and life blend. The ladies’ tights, which reappear in several projects are one element of a specific existence; so is the knitting in their trilogy “Directory” (2003-2006). Thinking, writing and remembering are also elements. Their topics are the past, with and without each other, the private body as a political entity, faded signposts, facts, fictions and, above all, words, sentences, stories and theory. Text and movement, film and philosophy, installations and publications form the sphere of activity of these artist twins.

The atmosphere, images, sounds, light and half-light of their works imprint themselves on our memory. While restlessly collecting, archiving and processing their own lives, they also reflect on the theatre and its parameters. They explore possibilities of formulating and reformulating (“Reportable Portraits”). Their current “Anarchiv” series takes them in search of past experiences, conceptually intensifying their collection of personal landscapes.
