Marco Goecke, born 1972 in Wuppertal, took his fi rst ballet classes as a 14 year-old. In 1988, he continued his training at the Ballet Academy Cologne and also studied at the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in Munich and at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag. After finishing his studies, he worked as a dancer at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and at the Theater Hagen. He developed his fi rst choreography in 2000. Marco Goecke has choreographed a.o. for the Noverre Society, for dancers of the New York City Ballet, for John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballett and for the Stuttgarter Ballett. His pieces have been invited a.o. to the Jacob’s Pillow Festival in Becket, Massachusetts (USA), to the Tanzbiennale in Venice, to the Internationale Tanzfestival NRW and to the Hamburger Ballett-Tagen. Marco Goecke won the Prix Dom Pérignon in Hamburg in 2003 and in 2005 received the Förderpreis der Landesstiftung Baden- Württemberg. In September 2005, Marco Goecke was appointed house choreographer of the Stuttgarter Ballett.
