Berlin-based director and choreographer Helena Waldmann studied Applied Theatre Studies at the University Giessen before learning the trade e.g. under Heiner Müller, George Tabori and Gerhard Bohner.
From 1993 to 1999, she distorted stage perspectives, closed up the fourth wall, directed theatre productions to look like film and – with these radical pieces – enjoyed international success. In 2003, she received the UNESCO Prize for her Brazilian production “Headhunters”.
Teaching positions, workshops and numerous commissions have taken her to Switzerland, Greece, China, Brazil, Iran, Palestine, India, Afghanistan and Japan.
