Integrationskurs mit Alphabetisierung (Integration courses including literacy skills)

The integration courses including literacy skills form part of the portfolio of integration courses offered by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees and are designed for participants who cannot, as yet, read and write well enough using the Latin alphabet to attend a general integration course. Some of the people attending these courses may be learning an alphabet and how to use a pen and paper for the first time in their lives (these are people with primary illiteracy); others may be familiarising themselves with the Latin script and are thus learning a second alphabet.

Some learners may not have the literacy skills to cope with a general integration course (these are people with functional illiteracy). The aim is for learners to achieve the A2 level of language proficiency on completion of the basic course, which consists of 900 (max. 1200) lessons plus the orientation course (45 lessons).

The integration courses including literacy skills account for 17.7% of all integration courses (as at: 02.01.2012).
