Our aim is to host a range of different events in which to raise topical issues from the integration debate and discuss them with you. Our current focus is on the relationship between language and integration.
To what extent are German language skills in fact necessary for integration? How can immigrants be best prepared for their arrival in Germany before leaving their home countries? How do other European countries deal with the issues of integration and language? How can the multilingualism of immigrants be promoted as a resource? Do the parents of pre-school children have to speak German? Which conditions need to be established in order to facilitate the integration of immigrants in the interests of both the immigrants themselves and the native population?
These and other issues are the focus of our interest. As the event organiser, the Goethe-Institut sees itself as an expert in the worldwide cultural dialogue and, at the same time, as a facilitator whose task to collate these experiences and present them in the context of the German integration debate.
