What the seminars include

The seminars offer you the opportunity to
  • update your knowledge of Germany and its people and form your own differentiated image of Germany.
  • encounter people of different ages, occupations and ethnic origins who live in Germany
  • refresh your knowledge of the German language
  • engage in an exchange of experiences and ideas in international groups of colleagues

Professional seminar coordination

The Goethe-Institut seminars are generally conducted by three people: an organizer, a seminar leader and a seminar assistant.

Organizers and seminar leaders have:

  • a university degree
  • experience in DaF teaching in different countries
  • experience in teacher training as well as "train the trainer" experience
  • experience in professional development with international groups

The seminar leaders are specialists in topics related to

  • Landeskunde (i.e. the study of Germany and its people)
  • methodology/didactics of German as a foreign language
  • didactics for teacher training
and are carefully selected by the Goethe-Institut in an annual application process. They are assigned to the various seminars on the basis of their individual professional development skills.

The organizer and the seminar leader

  • organize the seminar program, taking into account the special professional development requests from your application and
  • provide competent, committed support in conducting the seminar and the accompanying cultural program.

All seminars include

  • a structured program on weekdays planned by the seminar team, taking into account your experience and requests
  • seminar documents, teaching resources and materials
  • an accompanying cultural program on weekends or in the evening, including visits to theater performances, cinema, concerts and exhibitions as well as excursions
  • single or double room accommodation in homestay arrangements or conference centers / hotels for the duration of the seminar, including the arrival and departure date
  • a main meal on the seminar dates except on Saturdays and Sundays
  • medical, accident and liability insurance for the duration of the seminar and coverage for transportation home in case of illness. (Pre-existing conditions and pregnancy-related complaints are not covered.)
  • local transportation at the seminar location

Also included in some cases:

  • Participants with EU funding will receive full board or a per diem amount for the second main meal on seminar days as well as meals on the seminar weekends.
  • The Goethe-Institut grants a per diem amount for the second meal of the day and for meals on weekends to participants from certain countries. If the seminar program provides for full board, the per diem amount is reduced accordingly.
  • The Goethe-Institut grants a travel bursary or reimbursement of travel expenses to scholarship recipients from some countries.

Please check the terms and conditions applicable to you with your Goethe-Institut, or with the German embassy in your country if no Goethe-Institut is located there.

Please note:

  • The program is a full-day program from Monday to Friday, with class activities scheduled for the weekend and on some evenings.
  • The seminar program will take up all of your time and energy! In case of pregnancy we therefore recommend postponing your participation in a seminar to avoid complications for which there is no insurance coverage.
  • We also request that you travel to the seminar without family members or friends so that you can be fully committed to the seminar. The Goethe-Institut is not in a position to arrange for additional accommodation.
