Between two stools – German minorities in eastern Europe and central Asia
starting in April 2006
Over there they are “Germans”, here they are “Russians”. Without an awareness of the historical background, without an insight into the conditions in which they used to live, it is impossible to understand the fates and problems of ethnic Germans from the former Soviet Union or to design the support measures that they need. Together with its partners, the Goethe-Institut would like to raise awareness of this and to draw public attention to the main focuses of the work that it has been doing for some years on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office to promote German minorities in eastern Europe and central Asia.
The series of events was launched on 5 April by Dr. Linus Förster (Member of the Landtag) and the Secretary General of the Goethe-Institut, Dr. Hans Georg Knopp. The main topic of the evening was Ukraine, which was represented by its Consul-General.
Partners of the project are the BayernForum of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Bayerischer Rundfunk and the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe
