Requirements

Goethe-Institut examinations are available to all interested parties and can be sat regardless of your age and nationality.

We recommend a minimum age of 16 for the Goethe-Zertifikat C1.

The Goethe-Zertifikat C1 requires knowledge of the German language at the fifth level of competence C1 laid down by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Teaching units

In order to achieve this level of competence you will need 800 to 1,000 45-minute teaching units, depending on your previous knowledge and learning requirements.

Preparation

If you think that you meet the language requirements, then you can enrol for an exam at any time. We recommend that you participate in one of our preparatory courses, however. During these courses, you will be taught language and examination-specific skills that will make it as easy as possible for you to pass the exam.
