Bit by bit: examination components.

  1. Written examination held in groups (150 minutes)

    • You will read classified advertisements and a longer report or factual text and then do realistic exercises on them.
    • You will fill in the gaps in a letter by selecting the right word from a number of possibilities offered.
    • You will listen to brief conversations, announcements and a longer interview and then do the exercises on them.
    • You will write a personal or formal letter, at the same time completing various exercises.
  2. Oral examination held individually or in twos (15 minutes)

  3. You will introduce yourself, pass on the information contained in a diagram, picture or text and talk to your conversation partner about an everyday topic. During the dialogue, you will respond to questions, express your opinion and make suggestions.

Assessment

The Goethe-Zertifikat B1: Zertifikat Deutsch is conducted and assessed the same way all over the world. Each candidate’s written papers and oral performance are evaluated separately by two examiners at the examination centre in question who apply uniform criteria.

    Online sample test for all interested over 16 years of age with solid basic-level competence in standard German (Goethe-Zertifikat B1 – Zertifikat Deutsch) – barrier-free and therefore particularly suited to the needs of handicapped persons.

    The New Goethe-Zertifikat B1 – Setting the Standard

    As of 01.08.2013 there will be a new Goethe-Zertifikat B1. The final step in the project to develop the test was known as standard-setting.
