A good knowledge of German is valued throughout the world, but a language certificate makes it even more valuable. Because it’s only after taking an examination that you are able to assess your own knowledge of the language correctly. And only a recognized qualification will enable you to prove your skill to others, for example when applying for a job.
The Goethe-Institut certificates
- allow a transparent determination of language competence and the level of learning. That means that the learner finds out the level at which he or she speaks, understands, reads and writes German and what progress he or she is making.
- are proof of knowledge of a foreign language irrespective of school curricula and grades,
- cover all the levels and skills stipulated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages,
- stand for quality: we have many years of experience in developing examinations, worldwide testing, performance and quality assurance as well as examiner training.
International recognition
The Goethe-Institut certificates are highly rated everywhere. Zertifikat Deutsch, for example, is recognized as a requirement for acquiring German citizenship. The Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung, Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom and Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom certificates are a requirement for application to German universities and preparatory courses. But the Goethe-Institut certificates are also useful at universities in foreign countries.
In some countries, Goethe-Zertifikat B2 and C1 mean that you do not have to take an exam in German to complete your advanced secondary education. At many universities in the EU, proof of a Goethe certificate in the corresponding subject also earns students useful extra credit points.
