Funding of international youth exchange programmes in the field of music
The Goethe-Institut and the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) support international music exchange projects between young people in accordance with the German Federal Government’s Child and Youth Plan. This support includes funding for eligible projects involving musical encounters and exchange between German youth ensembles and comparable foreign partner groups or organizations abroad.
Grants are available for exchange projects abroad to cover part of the German participants’ travel expenses. For visiting foreign partners in Germany, grants are available to cover part of the foreign and German participants’ accommodation and programme costs.
Eligibility criteria (follow the link below for complete criteria):
- The encounter must be of the nature of a youth exchange programme and must pursue the aims of intercultural learning.
- It must adhere to the principle of reciprocity – with plans for the partner group/organization to pay a return visit.
- The project must be bilateral (trilateral or multilateral projects are eligible for funding only in special cases).
- The young participants must be between 12 and 26 years of age.
- The joint programme with the partner group/organization must be of between 5 and 30 days’ duration.
The following are ineligible for funding (click link below for complete ineligibility criteria):
- Concert tours
- Student trips and exchange projects in which tourism figures prominently
- Festivals and commercial events (e.g. with registration fees)
- School events (i.e. no events during teachers’ working hours or during class time)
- Exchange programmes between universities or other institutions of higher education
Applications can only be submitted by the German. They should be as specific and complete as possible, and should be submitted at least 6 months before the project is to begin.
