7 December 2009

Ding-dong sunnily on high! A clear blue sky and hot temperatures – here, no mulled wine is needed at Advent time to keep warm. In what city is this square located? Tell us and you can look forward to holiday post from Tuvalu. Or from Timbuktu? Or from...?

The second candle has been lit and it’s time for a new quiz. The typical national dress worn by the ladies in the foreground is a real eye-catcher, but look at the church in the background. There are over 350 churches in this architectural style here – and certainly a palm tree or two as well.

Speaking of palm trees: The unusually snowy landscape that we showed you last week is in Izmir, on Konak Square, famed for the over one-hundred-year old clock tower. If you guessed correctly, you can look forward to a card from Turkey. This time, there will also be personal post from the mystery city written by language learners at the Goethe-Institut there. We will tell you the solution next Monday.

So: In what city are these brightly dressed women celebrating Christmas?

This quiz is already over. The correct answer was Salvador de Bahia. To see the next picture in our Advent quiz, click here.
