Immersion
Ankara. A dark room, bright screens, and on them half-naked people are standing in water. You put on a set of suspended headphones and are audibly and visually immersed in the perspective of an immigrant. Gradually, you come to realize what it is that the Bulgarian artist Borjana Ventzislavova is trying to say in We Shall Overswim. With her work of art, she is pursuing fundamental questions in an age of increased mobility: What is a European identity? What and where today is “home”? “Neighbourhood X.0” is a media art exhibition for the joint Bulgarian-Greek-Turkish project Artup!.
