At the point where Europe and Asia meet lies a gift from the Ottoman Sultan to the German Kaiser: a spacious parcel of land on which the German ambassador had his summer residence built. Today, the villa on the Bosporus is a temporary home for artists from Germany. The first five scholarship holders just moved into Tarabya Cultural Academy, among them the playwright Marianna Salzmann and the filmmaker Martina Priessner. The Goethe-Institut, which is responsible for curating the cultural academy, is introducing the scholarship holders to Istanbul’s arts scene during their stay.
