Scents of Colour
It’s not commonplace that the Latin American pavilion at the Biennale in Venice is curated by a German. Alfons Hug, director of the Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro, was given the honour now for the second time together with Paz Guevara of Chile. The two placed a focus on artistic interactions between Europe and Latin America. The pavilion motto is The Atlas of the Empire. Sonia Falcone from Bolivia is one of the 19 exhibiting artists. She interpreted the catchphrase with colour in her installation Campo de Colore – a field made of 300 clay vessels filled with fragrant and, of course, colourful pigments ranging from pepper to cocoa and cinnamon.
