A Leg Up
All that naked skin at the Goethe-Institut – what’s going on here? Memoirs of a Pole Dancer is an interactive video installation in Montréal. While a screen shows sequences on dancing, aging, stereotypes and sexuality, two pole dancers demonstrate their dance figures and exercises. So, the scene is only racy at first glance. The dancers are accompanied by the words of a performance artist who narrates memories and excerpts from the dancers’ lives while doing everyday household chores such as making beds, vacuuming, washing dishes or pulling weeds.
