Dachshunds for GermanyClad in the sportive national colours, a German’s best friend sprints resolutely towards its master, licence tag rattling to the rhythm of its flopping ears. Scenes such as this may be familiar to the viewer from Sunday strolls in the park. The photo from the exhibition “Deutschland für Anfänger” (Germany for Beginners) might illustrate a more competitive variation of such an encounter, nonetheless, dachshunds will be dachshunds, Germany will be Germany. Dachshunds and plenty of other German singularities will be exhibited at the German Foreign Office until 24 July, after which the unpretentious “self-portrait of a republic” (Der Spiegel) will visit Goethe-Instituts around the world.
