Folklore's New LookThe creations of dyed leather and long cotton scarves, of colourful braiding and full cloaks that float over the catwalk in the halls of an old coffee warehouse in Addis Ababa are exotic and seem almost archaic. Designer Markus Lupfer from London spent ten days with four young Ethiopian talents preparing the show. Now Renaissance Fashion is presenting a rebirth of old Ethiopian cuts, designs and materials and their fusion with international fashion trends. Lupfer, the fashion icon known for his experimental play with colour and innovative processing of knits and leather, came to Addis Ababa on the invitation of the Goethe-Institut where, together with young local designers, he showed traditional apparel that can be worn proudly around the world. The fashion show is scheduled to come to Munich in April 2011.
