Green Architecture

Intelligent, innovative, sustainable and nonetheless aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Those were the criteria to be fulfilled by the designs of Canadian architectural students for resource-saving residential buildings. The Goethe-Institut Canada and the German embassy organized the competition Young Leaders for Future Cities, for which students were invited to propose an empty lot for their design and explain what positive impact their house would have on the neighbourhood. It was not merely a case of leaving the smallest possible ecological footprint with the building, but it should also fit well architecturally into the vicinity. Three students from the University of Toronto submitted efficient designs for their city’s typically narrow lots that won over the jury. The winning team will travel to Germany in February to look at passive houses and climate-friendly neighbourhoods.
