Palme d'Or for Rainmaker
The awarding of this year’s Palme d'Or in Cannes was especially delightful for the Goethe-Institut. The prize for the best short film went to a good friend of the institute: Maryna Vroda. The Ukrainian director received the Palme d'Or for her short film Cross. The film is 15 minutes long and is based on Vroda’s own school memories. The 29-year old director has been associated with the Goethe-Institut since 2007, when she took part in the film competition “All human beings are born free and equal”, winning third place. Her prize-winning film was called Rain and revealed, according to the jury, “touching depth and beauty in the love between two elderly people, a love that has lasted throughout their lifetimes.” (Watch the trailer.)
