Let the Puppets Speak!
They tell stories from time immemorial; of repression and censorship in their countries. Some speak playfully and loudly, others polemically and wordlessly. Their protagonists are marionettes and hand puppets, shadows and light. The Puppets Beyond Borders come from Germany, France, Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand. Over recent weeks, five puppet theatre ensembles met in Chiangmai in northern Thailand, in Phnom Penh and in Yangon in southern Myanmar to share with each other in workshops. They performed their latest works in Myanmar. Their mutual theme was Home and their perspectives of it were diverse. The stage provided them with the necessary satirical freedom.
