Only one dream was shattered
Although he wasn’t a winner, yet a dream still came true for Wim Wenders: not only because his filmPina was nominated for the Oscar, which is no small honour, but also because someone he really hoped would win did scoop up a number of awards: Martin Scorsese. At a pre-Oscar party in the Villa Aurora, the German filmmaker revealed that his two favourites were Scorsese’s film Hugo and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life. “I hope that one of my heroes, Malick or Scorsese, wins. But you never know. This year it’s a really close race and anything can happen.” So he’s to be congratulated in any case. The party on the day before the 84th Academy Awards ceremony was hosted by German Films together with the German Consulate General and the Goethe-Institut in the villa, which in the 1940s and 50s was the home of the exiled German author Lion Feuchtwanger and his wife Martha.
