Unheard of! New rhythms in contemporary Turkish prose

With Gaye Boralıoğlu and Wolfgang Riemann | Chaired by: Egon Ammann, publisher

Reading and talk
Thursday, 10.10., 1.30 – 2.30 pm
Weltempfang stage, Hall 5.0, Stand E 81
Passionate and intellectual, melodramatic and grotesque, touching and absurd – this prose is as rich in contrast as the city of Istanbul which is its home. Turkish author Gaye Boralıoğlu opens our eyes to the osmosis of tenderness and violence, while tapping out a rhythm that confronts the beat of cliché. Wolfgang Riemann, Turkologist and one of the most highly respected translators of Turkish literature, talks to Gaye Boralıoğlu about her work and the literary scene in Turkey at the moment.
The event is being held as part of the Tarabya translator prize, which promotes literary exchange between Germany and Turkey. The prize has been awarded since 2010 and acknowledges Turkish-German and German-Turkish literary translations.
