Many southern European countries are affected by economic crisis and recession. It is not just a financial problem – social cohesion is also at risk. Faced with youth unemployment rates of up to 60 per cent, the idea of a secure future – taken for granted for decades – has become obsolete. What does this mean for young people? Will they be able to solve the problems in their own countries? Is emigration to the richer countries of the north a solution? How is the crisis reflected in the programmes offered by the Goethe-Institut?
These questions are discussed by Spanish publicist Cristina Manzano, Greek TV journalist Kostas Argyros, Goethe-Institut president Klaus-Dieter Lehmann and Portuguese construction engineer Bruno Lopes, who has a scholarship from the Metzler Foundation and has been in employment in Germany since 2013.
