Initiators:
Goethe-InstitutThe Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institution operational worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. We also foster knowledge about Germany by providing information on its culture, society and politics. With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe-Centres, cultural societies, reading rooms and exam and language centres we have played a central role in the cultural and educational policies of Germany for over 50 years.
EUNICThe Association of European Cultural Institutes in Berlin was established in February 2003. Its main aim is to initiate and support European cultural activities in the German capital. It is a forum for the discussion of the challenges, interests, problems and questions arising in the course of European integration. Besides the close cooperation between the institutes, one of the main reasons for its establishment is to build up the European view of culture and the arts emphasizing the different regional cultural peculiarities and the evident similarities. Central concerns of the association are, in particular, supporting the integration of the new EU members. The 28 members of EUNIC Berlin work in close cooperation with the Senate of Berlin, the cultural department of the Foreign Ministry, and the Federal Government’s culture and media representatives.
In 2006 the Association of European Cultural lnstitutes in Berlin joined the EUNIC-Europe network which has the aim of strengthening the positions and the roles of the national cultural institutes at the level of the European Union.
