Acting on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Goethe-Institut e.V. promotes various issues of foreign cultural and educational policy. We organize cultural projects, provide information services and foster the teaching and learning of German with 136 institutes in 93 countries and a total of 947 information and dialogue points across the globe. With our work we attempt to present an image of Germany which is devoid of clichés, enabling people abroad to get to know our country in a manner which is both realistic and diverse. We are generously subsidized by the German Foreign Office and we augment our budget with own revenues and with substantial contributions of our international parrtners.
Additional funding by foundations and private patrons enables us to carry out important projects to further the European and international understanding and leave a wider scope to act on current challenges with appropriate activities.
