Information about German theatre and dance
Together with the Internet editorial team at the Goethe-Institut, on our website we offer a broad spectrum of information on theatre and dance in Germany through articles on current topics in the performing arts, festival reports, theatres and ensembles, news and portraits of directors, stage designers and choreographers as well as a selected collection of links.Theatre and dance projects from Germany abroad
The focus of the cultural programme is determined in each respective region, country or city. Ideas for projects are usually the result of close cooperation between the Goethe-Instituts and local institutions such as theatres, festivals and schools as well as individuals such as directors and choreographers. Contacts for projects abroad are the respective responsible Goethe-Instituts. The Theatre and Dance Division at the Munich head office advises and supports the Goethe-Instituts abroad in their theatre and dance programmes, disseminates information about current trends in Germany and promotes international cooperation.Guest performances in Germany
The Theatre and Dance Division supports guest performances in Germany by theatre and dance ensembles from countries involved in German development cooperation. This gives artists from Africa, South America and Asia opportunities to show their work to the German public and to share with artists here.Applications can be submitted by festivals, theatres and organizers that wish to invite the groups. The criteria for support are the production quality, organizer relevance and supraregional visibility. Only the travel and transport costs are funded.

The library now encompasses 500 translations in over 30 languages and every year 50 more are added. All of the plays can be ordered worldwide, easily and for free.Promotion of young talent
In order to enable young artists from Germany to gain their first international contacts and experiences, the Theatre and Dance Division has set up a young talent programme. The prerequisite for funding is an invitation from a professional organizer abroad. Young artists starting their careers can apply as well as professional schools and academies planning cooperation projects abroad. Only the travel and transport costs are funded.Residencies abroad
We assist German artists with artist-in-residency programmes abroad where they can prepare international projects and make contacts. The residencies in Montreal and in Kyoto are regularly announced. The division supports residency projects around the globe.
