The Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) studies the effects of human activity on space and analyses options for sustainable spatial development in the areas of economics, society, ecology and culture.
As a non-university, independent institute for the spatial sciences serving research, policy-making, administration and business, the ARL offers a recognised forum and a wide scope for cooperation. Through cooperative work in numerous committees, interdisciplinary expertise is brought together and further developed to generate new knowledge. The institute is jointly funded by the Federal Government and the states and is a member of the Leibniz Association (WGL).
