Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung, PIK)
|Institution||Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)|
|Themes||Global climate change and its ecological, economic and social impacts|
|Orientation||Interdisciplinary cooperation among natural and social scientists, system and scenario analysis, quantitative and qualitative modelling, computer simulation and data integration|
The PIK conducts research on scientifically and socially relevant issues in the areas of global change, climate impact and sustainable development. At the PIK, approximately 270 natural and social scientists work together to investigate the ecological, economic and societal impacts of global climate change and design strategies for long-term sustainable development of human beings and nature. By means of data analyses, computer simulations, and solutions-oriented models, the PIK provides society with information and tools for sustainable development. In addition to publishing its findings, the Institute advises national and regional agencies such as the German Federal Government and increasingly global organisations such as the World Bank as well.
The PIK is a part of a global network on issues of global environmental change and is engaged in direct exchange of ideas on many levels with scientists and researchers world-wide, as well as with decision makers from the economy, policy-making and the public.
