With approx. 70 research staff members, the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt is Germany's largest and oldest peace research institute. It researches the causes of violent international and internal conflicts, and the conditions for peace (understood as a process of decreasing violence and increasing justice). In addition to its basic research, the HSFK is also active in the area of policy consultation. Peace and conflict research are significant themes especially in global politics – through its work, the HSFK makes a German contribution to international discourse.
