German Humanities in the Process of Internationalisation

Initiative "Pro Geistes-

From 12-13 February 2008, the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen (KWI) and Goethe Institute held a symposium in Essen on the topic

"Made in Germany" – German Humanities in the Process of Internationalisation

The question as to where Germany’s humanities, social and cultural sciences are positioned in the global context also, or maybe particularly, has to be dealt with after the "Year of Humanities". An international board of outstanding scientists and intermediaries dealt with these issues in an open discussion guided by impulse presentations and thus contributed to the current discussion about the new orientation of the German humanities in the process of their internationalisation from a scientific-political point of view.
The symposium was headed by Claus Leggewie, Director of the KWI, Hans-Georg Soeffner, Chairman of the Advisory Council Science and Current Affairs of Goethe Institute and Christoph Bartmann, head of the department "Culture and Information" of Goethe Institute.
