Damilare Oyedele
Emerging International Voices

A Library Advocate and Librarypreneur harnessing advocacy and also support for the resuscitation of libraries in schools and communities in Africa, working from Nigeria with Library Aid Africa.

Damilare Oyedele private What’s a library to you?

To me, a library is a platform that provides profound individual learning experience. You get to explore vast array of knowledge independently.

What’s the single most essential thing you need in your everyday work?

The most essential thing I need in my everyday work is my laptop, my smart phone, internet access and music – preferably Enya or Yanni.

What was the most memorable experience you ever had in a library?

My most memorable library experience was in 2018, when I took a selfie in the library, and this brought the commencement of the #libraryselfie series— an online initiative, which started in 2018, uses social media to create awareness about the importance of libraries as spaces for reading and learning. This initiative has winners, who have then become library champions driving advocacy for improved library development and usage in their local communities.
