A librarian from old books to a futuristic vision.

Ramiro Rico private What’s a library to you?

Borges said a library is a universe. I would say a library is a mirror where we can find ourselves, or where we can find what our hearts want or our society needs.

What’s the single most essential thing you need in your everyday work?

I can’t work without my users. I can work without books, internet, anything, but users are essential, they are the main target of any library I have worked.

What was the most memorable experience you ever had in a library?

I have learned to read in my grandfather’s library, that allowed me to love the books and libraries in general.

Statement on digital libraries
Jumping into the digital world

My country, Bolivia, has been in a state of crisis for a long time before the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, it could be said that Bolivia has been in crisis since the beginning of its existence. Libraries have fought this crisis and worked to make a better society, but if librarians are unable to go to their workplaces to organise and share information (in relation to both the pandemic and the social crisis), what can they do?
