Europe’s Kitchen Wrocław with Priya Basil

For Europe`s Kitchen Wrocław we invited people in and from Poland to share their impressions of Europe through ingredients and taste. What does Europe taste like to them? And which ingredient would they like to add? You can read the answers below. They form the basis for two short stories by Priya Basil and for the art pieces by 5 ceramic artists from Wrocław, who interpreted these thoughts on Europe for us.

I’m really interested in imperfection. The process in ceramics is only controllable to a certain extent but you can find beauty in that kind of process and this is my response to Europe`s Kitchen.

For me, the taste of modern Europe is not so much a contradiction, but a complete cultural mix. What appears to us to be so indigenous, and that flavour we associate with a given country, suddenly turns out to be the complexity of many generations.

We should be more focussed and more into the moment, the present, when we eat, when we taste something and when we’re with family, with friends, people that we can share the meal with.

My work “Earth Plates” refers to the tectonic plates. What I mean is that, even though Europe is made up of different nationalities, different tastes, different culinary traditions, we are still moving across the same ground, on the same plate.

A sense never exists on its own. In order to be able to experience the senses of taste and smell, we also need colours, structures and textures.

The "Flow - permeation" is a collection of 2 objects on the line between sculpture and vessel. The side view suggests a traditional, rounded, usable bowl, but when you look inside, the bowls reveal flowing, organic walls running across the vessels, dividing them into parts.
