Support offers for cultural workers in and from Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is also having a serious impact on cultural workers and artists. The Goethe-Institut has therefore set up various programs that help support the cultural scene, both in the Ukraine and in exile in Germany and other European countries.

Emergency aid scholarships for cultural artists from Ukraine

The emergency aid grant program from Goethe-Institut and the German Federal Cultural Foundation, which supports cultural workers from Ukraine with quick bridging aid on site and in the diaspora, will be continued. The scholarships are aimed at partners of the Goethe-Institut Ukraine or the German Federal Cultural Foundation in Ukraine. These can be freelance artists as well as employees of partner institutions.
The scholarship is intended for the creation of projects to preserve the cultural scenes in Ukraine and in the diaspora.

Stabilisation Fund for Culture and Education in Ukraine

The Stabilisation Fund for Culture and Education is aimed at organisations in Ukraine whose work is of great importance for the local cultural scene and civil society, but whose work is affected or prevented by the war.
The stabilisation fund is intended to contribute in the short term and as non-bureaucratically as possible to the realisation of artistic productions and cooperations, events and festivals, cultural education programmes and structural maintenance measures, safe spaces for refugee artists and protective measures for cultural heritage. The focus is particularly on organisations that do not have sufficient funding or that are affected by additional financial burdens due to the current situation.

Matching portal for cultural workers and funding pot for cultural institutions

Together with the international NGO Artists at Risk (AR), the Goethe-Institut pools offers from cultural institutions in Germany that offer artistic residencies for hosting Ukrainian artists and cultural practitioners at risk.

If no funds are available, institutions can apply to the Goethe-Institut for financial grants for a monthly living grant, travel and accommodation. Additional production and coordination costs may also be applied for.

These support projects by the Goethe-Institut are part of a comprehensive package of measures for which the Federal Foreign Office is providing funds from the 2022 supplementary budget to mitigate the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
