Reykjavik / Island: Writer-in-Residence Programme
Who: Application is open for German authors who must have published at least two books, of which at least one must have been translated into either English or a Scandinavian language.
Closing date for applications: 31. August 2019
Its purpose is to provide recipients with an opportunity to conduct and develop their research, inspirations and working concepts into a literary project based on the country of Iceland as its point of departure and/or its source of inspiration. The scholarship recipient will have the chance to gather insights into the local literature scene in Iceland, extend their network and exchange ideas
Collaboration with local Icelandic literary institutions is an expected part of the scholarship. The Goethe-Institut Dänemark’s communication canals in Iceland would like to use Social Media content like posts, pictures etc. portraying the author’s experiences with literature in Iceland.

Selection procedureThe Goethe-Institut Dänemark together with UNESCO City of Literature Reykjavik will decide on the awarding of the scholarship. The decision will be based on the quality of work proposed by the applicant. There is no legal right to appeal the outcome of the decision.
Features of the ProgramThe scholarship grant for the entire period is 1,600.- EUR. In addition to this, free use of a lodging in Reykjavik is included. Furthermore there will be a one-time reimbursement of costs for the travel to and from Iceland
Requirements of recipients
- Cooperation with local Icelandic institutions that distribute literature is expected
- The generation of SoMe content like posts about the author’s experiences with literature in Iceland is highly encouraged
- There is a residential obligation
- Insurance (Overseas health insurance, accident, and liability insurance) will be in the responsibility of the scholarship recipient
