Frequently Asked Questions

The Department of Cultural Education and Discourse handles the fields of cultural management, cultural and creative industries as well as cultural and digital education. It focuses on topics that reflect socio-political discourse in Germany and abroad. These include post-colonialism, feminism, Europe and civil society. In addition, the Department is responsible for overall institutional consulting for the three main topics of the Goethe-Institut: “How does the new come into the world?” “Cultures of equality” and “Ecology and sustainability.”

The Goethe-Instituts abroad determine the topics and focuses of their programme work and training offers for their respective regions on their own. The resulting projects are developed and realised in dialogue with local partners. The Department of Cultural Education and Discourse advises colleagues abroad on the conception and implementation of events and programmes, provides thematic stimuli and recommends experts. It is supported by its advisory board.

The Goethe-Institut also supports educational and discourse events in Germany. The Department of Cultural Education and Discourse develops and participates in various formats such as workshops and conferences.
