The promise that the concept of freedom long harboured has lost its appeal. Being free is either taken too for granted by the people of Europe – or has gained too many, often very different meanings. How do we deal with that? How do we unite an awareness of tradition and self-determination? For the Goethe-Institut, eight European authors have attempted to answer these and other questions about freedom and the loss of free spaces in fiction. Two of the authors will participate in the discussion.
