Fifty years ago, Israel and Germany established diplomatic relations. The Goethe-Institut, BR-Klassik and the Neue Musikzeitung are taking the anniversary as an occasion to illuminate the present music and arts scene in Israel on the radio programme contrapunkt.

The radio programme contrapunkt – Dialog der Kulturen will be broadcast live on BR-Klassik from the Hilmar-Hoffmann-Saal at the Goethe-Institut head office on Thursday, 19 November, between 7:30 and 10 pm. It will begin with soloists from the Orchester Jakobsplatz presenting works by Israeli composters.

Later, the ARD’s Israel correspondent Richard C. Schneider and the composers Sarah Nemtsov from Berlin and Yuval Shaked from Tel Aviv will discuss the situation of young artists in Israel. What challenges are they faced with? What opportunities do they have, what are their present problems? Plus: Why are more and more young Israeli artists opting for lives in Berlin?

Even those who do not live within the service area of the Bayerische Rundfunk can listen to the programme on the website of BR-Klassik.
