Four young Cubans experience an amorous escapade and fall under the spell of Santería. In Cuba, the character of the magician Colas becomes a wondrous Santero. Director Andreas Baesler was invited to Havana by the Goethe-Institut to produce Mozart’s one-act comic opera Bastien und Bastienne under the Cuban title Bastián y Bastiana. Just like the premiere in 1768, the play was held outdoors in a garden in Playa and other places in Havana. Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, the president of the Goethe-Institut, was so thrilled by the performance that he later presented bass-baritone Marcos Lima with a language course scholarship.
